Members of the North American Saxophone Alliance:
A sincere thank you to Thomas Lowry, our NASA Webmanager, for doing a considerable amount of work to create and migrate our information to the new and revised website, version 5. The site now includes a Saxophone Repertoire Entry, Saxophone History Timeline, Upcoming Professional Member Performance Listing, and the ability to upload images. It is now easier to navigate and find information. Additionally, members will have the chance to create content on the website by using these new features.
I find the Saxophone Repertoire Entry database to be especially attractive. NASA members will be able to create a saxophone repertoire list by entering information on pieces that they have performed or recommend. Besides listing pertinent information (title, composer, publisher), there will be an area for a short abstract that describes each composition and lists its instrumentation. The Saxophone Repertoire Entry database provides the ability to search saxophone literature by title, composer, instrumentation, and a variety of other fields. This will become a living document, capable of expanding and staying current with our art. Take a minute out of your day to explore this latest feature, and add new literature to the Saxophone Repertoire Entry database!

John NicholMy hope and wish is that you have had a restful and productive summer; finding time to practice, travel, gig, teach/attending summer camps, research, and attend masterclasses. Now, many of us will prepare for another school year.
I encourage you to read and enjoy the North American Saxophone Alliance Updates that are listed on the front page of the NASA Website. The Updates feature articles on the NASA Region II, III, V Conferences, 2011 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition Results, Eugene Rousseau Saxophone Workshop at Shell Lake, Saxophone at the Midwest, Central Michigan University Saxophone Day featuring h2 Quartet and Don Sinta, and Third Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition.

The NASA Executive Committee was quite busy in late February and March with discussion concerning our performance competitions, the mechanics of the competitions, prize amounts, application fees, and adjudicator compensation. In addition to the three existing competitions (jazz, classical, and quartet), we created three new competitions that will be held at our next Biennial Conference at Arizona State University in March of 2012.

John NicholOur next North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference is scheduled for March 15-18, 2012, at Arizona State University. Professor Timothy McAllister and the Herberger Institute School of Music at Arizona State University have agreed to host this event. Members of the NASA Program Committee are Taimur Sullivan – chair, Connie Frigo, Michael Ibrahim, Brad Leali, and Kenneth Tse. Competition Coordinators are David Dees, Carrie Koffman, and Stephen Jones. The people listed above are an all-star cast and we have every confidence that they will do all they can to provide us with an exciting and inspirational conference. We will do our best to keep you apprised of information as conference details develop.

I would like to extend my appreciation to the NASA executive committee members that have completed their terms of office: Past-President Steven Stusek, Treasurer Andrew Dahlke, and Secretary James Umble. Steve has been an exceptional president and deserves special appreciation for providing six years of service, as do Andy and Jim for providing two years of service. Thank you very much!
We welcome President-Elect Cliff Leaman, Secretary Eric Lau, and Treasurer Frank Bongiorno to the executive committee. Current Past-President Debra Richtmeyer and I will work to connect with and organize the new executive committee into a cohesive, effective team. Our new Treasurer and Secretary are currently collaborating with their previous counterparts to execute a smooth transition of information and documents.
